DUELMASTER'S COLUMN
Notes from the arena champ.

Hello my friends, hello!

Thraximundar wanted to make sure it took their shot and it was a fairly good one.
Thought it had me a few times, but in the end I appear to have learned enough to
finish the fight. 3 turns as the Duelmaster! Wow! Quite an accomplishment!

For those wondering, I started 15-10-8-17-17-4-13 and ended up 15-12(2)-8-18(1)-17-4-
13. (Not sure why there was a WT train, best guess is this was a mix up on my strategy
sheet at some point.) I achieved Master ratings in Initiative, Attack, and Parry. As
the boss suspected, I am "naturally adept with the MORNING STAR". VH/VL rhythm seems
fun to me, although I never tried that before. And apparently, I tend to focus on
Parry Skills. We thought Initiative was my favorite, but the last few turns have
shifted that. I've learned 58 skills total, 15/1/15/17/7/3 and have been confirmed to
be -2 in Attack.

As for my future, the boss says he'll let me try to max INIT, ATT, and PAR before
making any definite decisions, so we will see what my future holds. It will be good to
see Jason on the Isle, regardless of what else happens. Perhaps I'm back at some point
to bark orders at these guys. We will have to see.

Other interesting details, I am the 2nd member of the Army of Darkness to get my
invite and 14th of Master Beru's warriors to get invited (15th just got their notice
in Telorinthe). I am the 4th WS (tied for most of a style with TP with the 15th
graduate getting their invite.) I am one of the boss's few attempts to name a warrior
inappropriately, hence the Asterisk (*). In that moment (in the 90s), the word didn't
seem that bad, but with some years, the boss now views it as understandable (and
appropriate) censorship. Plus it has been fun having that air of mystery.

Enough about me. I offer no challenges this round but will be doing some avoiding in
an effort to hand the throne to Attila after my departure. If she can get a challenge
through to Uncas or Geronimo AND win, the hope is that gets a throne for her.
Regardless, we will see some of you later. Others... this is farewell. Maybe not a
fond farewell, but a farewell none the less.

SPY REPORT

Ho Ho Ho Lapurians! The holiday season is nearly upon us and 'tis the season for
giving and enjoying time with family and friends. As usual, my Uncle Nick can't visit
me for the holidays, he is just too busy. The same goes for me with next round of
duels happening right around the holiday. So I have little time to figure out my
plans, but right now 'tis time to do the spy report.

Let us take a moment to honor our newest Lord Protectors, number 12 and 13 for the
year. First is 3-time Duelmaster DEMON D*KE of ARMY OF DARKNESS and veteran HENREE of
MID EARTH. We salute you both on excellent arena careers. Represent Lapur well at the
Isle in the future. ALL HAIL DEMON D*KE and HENREE!!

We held steady at 10 teams in the ranks and all are fighting and they accounted for 20
fights on the commission lists. There was only one fight by torch light and it was the
Bloke ridding himself of Snot. He must have been bad for the Bloke to cast him aside.
20 matches still and 8 are by challenge and that leave 12 random matchups. I eulogized
the dead, now onto the fight for the throne. With the Duke heading to the Isle we will
have a new champion. Who will it be? It's a challenge fight between ATTILA THE NUN of
ARMY OF DARKNESS and UNCAS of WAR PARTY. In a popular 1 minute one-sided Title melee
Master Beru's devoted warrior demolished Obergon's Mohican warrior. All hail Sister
Attila!

Next up is my "Fight of the Week." There were several good fights, but this one stood
above the others. I chose a fight between two new apprentice warriors fighting for the
honor of their guild and their lives. BLUD BUTCHER of NEON VELVET challenged WOLF SIRE
of I'M THE WOLF, with Howlin Wolf's wolven warrior unbelievably besting Neon's
cleaving warrior in a 4 minute duel. Well done to you both!

In team news, Visionist and his MID EARTH crew garnered a 4-1-1 showing to jump from
4th to first. Dropping 1 spot to 2nd is Master Beru and his ARMY OF DARKNESS after a
3-2-0 record. Rounding out the top 3 is Jorja and her CARDOW HUNTERS, who managed a 2-
3-0 to jump from 5th last time. As for the Most Avoided Team it goes to the Bloke and
his AVOID ME! propaganda machine, who had an impressive 11 warriors avoiding their
guild. The next closest was three other guilds with 4 avoids. The Team on the Move
goes to Visionist and MID EARTH after gaining 45 points collectively.

Remaining Challenge fights...

WANDERER 4 of BLACK KELTS challenged PETRIFIED SPONGE of ARMY OF DARKNESS, with Purple
Sage's nomadic warrior losing to Master Beru's fossil warrior in a crowd pleasing 3
minute match.

STONE HINGE of BLACK KELTS challenged THRAXIMUNDAR of NEON VELVET, with Purple Sage's
megalithic warrior being overpowered by Neon's mysterious warrior in a 1 minute one-
sided frey.

MANURE of AVOID ME! challenged BIG TROUBLE of I'M THE WOLF, with the Bloke's dung
warrior vanquishing Howlin Wolf's turbulent warrior in a 1 minute mismatched fight.

LOTS OF KNOTS of ALMOST EXACTLY challenged RAINSTORM of CARDOW HUNTERS, with Vlad's
tangled warrior being overpowered by Jorja's flooding warrior in a 2 minute mismatched
brawl.

LYING POLITICIAN of ARMY OF DARKNESS challenged TASALON of NEON VELVET, with Master
Beru's deceptive warrior being handily defeated by Neon's mysterious warrior in a 2
minute uneven melee.

POISON IVY of AVOID ME! challenged DROP THE SOAP (1-2-0,5) of ALMOST EXACTLY, the
Bloke's toxic warrior vanquishing Vlad's unusual warrior in a 1 minute one-sided duel.

In Individual Achievements...

The biggest winner is TROUBLE, who beat GERONIMO and walked away with 21 more points
from the fight, but that also meant that GERONIMO lost 21 points with the loss.

This week's favorite is DEEP WELL 900 of BLACK KELTS, who went 8 minutes in losing but
was made famous by UPCHUCK of AVOID ME!

One last note before I forget: We lost one warrior this week, EMOTIONAL CARNAGE of
ALMOST EXACTLY. It is tough to see warriors die just as they are getting their footing
in the arena. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. On that sad note, I see nothing
left but to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. 'Til next time.
